Capital International connection
12 September 2008
Phil met with Chairman JC Massar and Senior Vice President Sunny Oberoi of Los Angeles based Capital International Asset Management during their recent research tour in Australia. While here they consulted with the Australian Government, Treasury and financial institutions.
Their visit was prompted because Credit Suisse is one of their clients, and also because Australia is now the world's second largest investment market so they were researching whether they should establish their own presence here into the future.
Phil first met them during a phone consultation, at the invitation of Mark Speciale, in May 2008 during their earlier research about the investment industry in Australia and where it's heading. They've now developed a robust professional rapport and Mr Massar has invited Phil to visit them in LA.

Expert consultation benefits Kinvale clients

Phil attended a special briefing on 26 August 2008 by
Dr Philippa Malmgren as part of the DWS Future forum. Philippa has an extremely impressive financial background, advising at international levels on a vast range of global economic issues. For example, she was a former adviser on international economic issues to George W Bush during his Presidential campaign, after which she joined the White House and served as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy on the National Economic Council. Today she is President of London-based Canonbury Group and meets with leading policy-makers in the offices of heads of government, the boards of central banks and elected and appointed officials among the G7 countries to discern how current political and policy environments will influence the financial markets. She then informs asset managers, traders and investors about potential impact on their portfolios. Phil takes every opportunity to draw on such expertise when managing his clients' portfolios.
